Aups is a small medieval market town in the Haut-Var, sitting at roughly 500 metres elevation on the southern edge of the Verdon Natural Regional Park. It has a well-preserved historic centre with Romanesque and Gothic architecture, shaded squares lined with plane trees, and a reputation as one of the principal truffle markets in Provence. The surrounding landscape is a mix of oak forest, lavender fields, and limestone hills that define the character of inland Provence.

The weekly market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings draws producers from across the Haut-Var. The town has several restaurants, a handful of cafés on the central Place Martin Bidouré, and specialist food shops. The Lac de Sainte-Croix, one of the largest reservoirs in France, is approximately 20 kilometres away, and the Gorges du Verdon are within 30 minutes by car.

Aups sits roughly 80 kilometres north of Toulon and 100 kilometres west of Nice. The nearest motorway access is via the A8 at Brignoles, approximately 45 kilometres south. Toulon-Hyères Airport handles domestic and some European routes and is around one hour by car. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, with its full range of intercontinental connections, is approximately 90 minutes to the east via the A8.
