Grimaud occupies a distinctive position in the Var, split between a medieval hilltop village and a modern coastal quarter, Grimaud-Port Grimaud, that extends to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The old village, with its Romanesque church and Grimaldi castle ruins, sits above the plain, while the lower residential areas give direct access to the beaches of Saint-Pons and Beauvallon. The commune has maintained a quieter, more residential character than its famous neighbour Saint-Tropez, which lies roughly six kilometres to the east.
