Mandelieu-la-Napoule occupies a distinctive position on the western edge of the French Riviera, where the Siagne river meets the sea and the Esterel massif descends sharply toward the coast. The town divides naturally between Mandelieu inland and La Napoule on the waterfront, the latter anchored by its medieval château overlooking the bay.
