Veronese Liberty was a brief, deliberate season. Between 1903 and 1915, the city’s cultured bourgeoisie chose to build houses that were, above all, a cultural position. This villa — designed in the early 1900s by the engineer Alipio Valeggia — survives with its original elements intact.
The piano nobile is among the most recognisable residential architectures on Verona’s northern hillside. It unfolds across two levels.
On the first, the reception rooms: double exposure, exposed timber ceiling structure, original decorated cement tiles still in place, and a colonnaded balustrade balcony — the signature element that announces the architect’s hand from the street, and from within offers an outlook designed to be inhabited, not merely admired.
Above, in the attic, a second architecture: the roof structure in full view, dormer lights at eaves height, a habitable portion and, beyond it, volume of rare quality — what in early-twentieth-century bourgeois villas was the realm of slow time. Archive, library, private volumetric reserve.

Valdonega is less a neighbourhood than a threshold — where the city dissolves into the hill, where the Scaliger walls climb toward Castel San Pietro, where the cypresses begin and the traffic ends. For over a century it has been the settled address of cultured Verona. Ponte Pietra, the Roman Theatre and the banks of the Adige are minutes away on foot; the perceptual condition, however, remains that of the hillside.
