Sainte-Maxime occupies the northern shore of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, directly across the water from Saint-Tropez itself. Unlike its more celebrated neighbor, it has retained a genuinely residential character: a working town with a year-round population, a proper high street, and a seafront promenade that belongs as much to locals as to visitors. The hills rising behind the town, covered in pine and cork oak, provide the elevated positions from which much of the most sought-after residential property looks out over the gulf.

The town center offers daily markets on the Place du Marché, a covered market hall, and a concentrated restaurant strip along the port. Le Dauphin and La Maison Bleue are established dining addresses on the waterfront. The Casino de Sainte-Maxime anchors the seafront, and several sandy beaches, including Plage du Centre and Plage de la Nartelle, are within a short drive.

Sainte-Maxime is served by the RD25 and RD559 coastal roads, with Saint-Tropez reachable in approximately 20 minutes by ferry from the port, or around 30 to 40 minutes by road depending on season. Toulon-Hyères Airport is roughly 60 kilometers west, around 50 minutes by car. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, the primary international hub for the region, is approximately 90 kilometers to the east, typically one hour and 15 minutes by car outside peak summer traffic.
