Cassis occupies a singular position on the Provençal coast, sitting between the limestone massif of the Calanques and the oldest AOC wine appellation in France. The town has retained a genuine fishing-village scale, with a working port, ochre and pastel facades, and a market square that functions as the social centre of daily life. It draws a discerning, largely French clientele who value its restraint and natural setting over the more developed resorts to the east.

The port area offers restaurants including La Villa Madie, a two-Michelin-star address, alongside reliable bistros on the quai des Baux. The Tuesday and Friday morning market on Place Baragnon covers local produce, Cassis AOC wines, and regional specialities. The Calanques National Park is directly accessible on foot or by boat from the port.

Cassis sits 30 kilometres east of Marseille, reachable in under 40 minutes by car via the A50 motorway. A regional train connects Cassis station to Marseille Saint-Charles in approximately 25 minutes, with onward TGV services to Paris in three hours. Marseille Provence Airport is 45 kilometres away, around 40 minutes by car, with direct routes to major European and international destinations.
