A passion for real estate is one of the few things that current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have in common.
As Joe Biden confesses in his autobiography Promises to Keep, he has been “seduced by real estate” since his high school years. Biden bought his first 10,000 square foot mansion in 1974, as a 32 year old senator and widowed father of two. The property was located in the president’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. In the 1990s, he sold the home to build a lakefront house nearby in the same residential area.
Biden also reportedly owns a summer residence that is located in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Prior to buying it in 2017, he rented a vacation home in McLean, Virginia.
Donald Trump’s dealings in real estate are well-known. And speaking of passion for fine properties, it’s worth mentioning the Trump Organization’s (the company that Donald Trump inherited) extensive development of exclusive Manhattan towers under Trump’s leadership. Prior to Donald Trump serving as president of the company, the organization had focused upon providing middle-class rental housing in New York City’s outer boroughs.
Today, Trump’s personal assets include an estate in Palm Beach, a Manhattan penthouse, a golf club in New Jersey, and a 28,322 square foot mansion in Bedford, New York.
Both Biden and Trump’s real estate portfolios are impressive. We took a close look at the Presidents’ homes and selected similar real estate listings in the same neighborhoods.
Greenville in Wilmington, Delaware: Joe Biden’s cottage, and homes for sale nearby
Biden currently owns four acres of lakefront land at 1209 Barley Mill Road where he built a classic English-style cottage. The property is situated in Greenville, the prestigious suburb of Wilmington, and reportedly was bought for $1.2 million in 1996.
