A beautifully presented Grade II listed Manor House set within extensive grounds in the heart of the Teign Valley with panoramic views over rolling countryside. Town Barton is an impressive period family home offering over 5,100 sq ft of characterful and highly versatile accommodation. The house has a rich and detailed history, with it first being mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, when the village was known as Terra Godeboldi, under the reign of Godbold the Bowman. The house served as the Capital Barton (Manor House) for Godbold’s Domesday Estates, making it a rare instance of a property being directly traceable to its Domesday owner. Over the centuries the house has been remodelled and rebuilt. Sir Ralph de Doddescomb, who lived here between 1216 and 1272, left such an imprint that the village changed its name from Leigh Peverel to Doddiscombsleigh.

Town Barton still retains a wealth of historical features including grand reception rooms with high ceilings, colossal granite fireplaces, exposed timber beams, a traditional cross passage hallway and an original doorway lintel dated 1604. Run for many years as a Bed & Breakfast, the current owners started a process of restoration. With further modernisation still to do, Town Barton is a beautifully presented family home that enjoys wonderful views over the surrounding Teign Valley.

The ground floor offers a versatile arrangement of reception rooms, well suited to both formal entertaining and everyday family living. The welcoming reception hall leads to a spacious drawing room and a generous sitting room, each centred around an impressive original fireplace. Both rooms are served by adjoining bath or shower room facilities offering the flexibility to be used as ground floor bedrooms if desired. There is also a formal dining room with an original fireplace and a generous study. The kitchen and breakfast room is fitted with contemporary cabinetry and wooden worktops, while French doors provide direct access onto an enclosed courtyard. A large, fitted utility room completes the ground-floor accommodation.

The first floor is accessed via two staircases, with the main staircase leading directly to the principal bedroom, while an attractive spiral staircase also rises to the main first-floor landing. The generous principal bedroom is a particular highlight, enjoying a double aspect with far-reaching views across the surrounding valley, together with a fireplace and an en suite bathroom. A second bedroom also benefits from an en suite bathroom, while the remaining bedrooms are served by a spacious family bathroom.
