In Sousel, between Portalegre and Estremoz, the stone has preserved the memory of these struggles: a four-story manor house with a tower, built at a time when constructing tall structures was still a way of asserting control over territory.

The estate did not stand idle. The vineyards—some 4 hectares in production—continued to thrive. So did the olive grove. The private dam holds back the water as one would keep a secret. A traditional Alentejo house and a warehouse complete what the manor began, on 6.5 hectares that time has shaped at its own leisurely pace.
