The Alentejo is located in the south of Portugal, between the Tagus River and the Algarve. To the east it borders Spain and to the west it is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. It is an extensive region, essentially rural, occupying around a third of the national territory and covering a diverse landscape that ranges from the wild beaches and rugged coastlines of the Atlantic coastline to the extensive plains of the interior. The beauty of the landscape and the quality of its archaeological, monumental, architectural and ethnographic heritage, along with the excellence of its gastronomy and wines, make the Alentejo a unique and pleasant region that captivates visitors. The region has a road network, crossed longitudinally and transversely by important motorways (A2 Lisbon-Algarve and A6 Lisbon-Madrid), and has port (Sines, the largest deep-water port in Europe) and airport (Beja airport) infrastructures.
