She also started the daily market at Praça da Fruta, which still runs every single day under a sea of colourful umbrellas, making it the only daily outdoor market in Portugal. This is a town that gave Portugal painter José Malhoa and satirist-turned-ceramicist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, and that sheltered refugees fleeing the Nazis during WWII.
