Sainte-Maxime occupies the northern shore of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, directly across the water from its more celebrated neighbour. Where Saint-Tropez draws crowds and spectacle, Sainte-Maxime has retained a quieter, more residential character without sacrificing any of the coastal quality that defines this stretch of the Var. The town combines a working port, a genuine year-round community, and some of the most consistently sheltered beaches on the Côte d’Azur, backed by the Massif des Maures.

Daily life centres on the Place Victor Hugo and the market held each morning along the seafront. Le Dauphin and La Maison Bleue are reliable dining addresses in the town centre. The Nartelle and Elephants beaches are within easy reach by car or bicycle. Sainte-Maxime has a Casino, a covered market hall, and a compact but well-stocked commercial centre serving permanent residents throughout the year.

Toulon-Hyères Airport is approximately 80 kilometres west, around one hour by car, and handles domestic and European routes. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is roughly 120 kilometres east, typically 90 minutes by road, and provides the broadest range of intercontinental connections. The A8 motorway is accessible via the RN7 through Fréjus, placing Marseille within two hours and Monaco within 90 minutes under normal traffic conditions. A seasonal ferry service connects Sainte-Maxime directly to Saint-Tropez in under 15 minutes.
