Sainte-Maxime occupies a privileged position on the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, facing the peninsula directly across the water. Unlike its more celebrated neighbour, the town has retained a genuinely residential character: a working port, a year-round population, and a seafront promenade that functions as a social centre rather than a seasonal spectacle. The Nartelle quarter, on the eastern edge of town, sits close to a sequence of sandy beaches and is one of the more established residential addresses in the commune.
The town centre, a ten-minute drive from Nartelle, offers a covered market on Place du Marché, a casino, and a range of restaurants along the waterfront. The ferry to Saint-Tropez departs from the port and takes approximately fifteen minutes, making the peninsula easily accessible without the road traffic.
Sainte-Maxime is served by the A8 motorway via Le Muy, approximately 25 kilometres inland, connecting to Nice and Aix-en-Provence. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is around 90 kilometres east, typically one hour and fifteen minutes by car outside peak season. Toulon-Hyères Airport offers a closer alternative at roughly 80 kilometres to the west, with domestic and select European routes.
