At the confluence of Rua de São Miguel, Rua de São Bento da Vitória and Travessa das Taipas stands one of the most singular examples of built heritage in Porto’s Historic Centre, known as Casa de São Miguel. This eighteenth-century building forms part of the medieval fabric of the former Judiaria Velha (Old Jewish Quarter) and is officially classified as a Public Interest Property, a distinction granted by Decree no. 44,675 of 9 November 1962. According to the official Cultural Heritage record, this classification specifically covers the extraordinary 17th- and 18th-century azulejo tile panels, considered heritage elements of great artistic and historical value. A rare property connected to the Monastery of São Bento da Vitória The tiles that once covered the main façade are believed to have belonged to the former Chapter Room of the Monastery of São Bento da Vitória, having been removed for protection following the vandalism and looting that occurred after the Siege of Porto. The panels depict scenes of daily life and the Coronation of Our Lady, constituting a rare testament to Porto’s Baroque tile-making tradition. The tiles were carefully removed by the current owners for specialised conservation and restoration, and are being preserved for future reintegration into the building. Authentic architecture in the UNESCO Historic Centre Dating back to the 17th century, with architectural development consolidated in the 18th century, the building preserves the authenticity of traditional Porto structure: three floors; balanced volumetry; traditional room layout; direct relationship with the medieval public space; strong historical identity. The building organically follows the historic slope of Vitória, in one of the oldest and most culturally significant areas of Porto. Its proximity to the Monastery of São Bento da Vitória, the Vitória Viewpoint, Porto Cathedral, and the UNESCO-classified core reinforces the historical, cultural and touristic relevance of this location. Private garden in the heart of the city One of the rarest features of this property is its private garden, an unexpected, quiet space in the historic centre, capable of creating an atmosphere completely distinct from the surrounding urban bustle. A true refuge within the historic city. Approved project and active licence until 2027 The property includes: Approved project Active registration of licence title Permit valid until July 2027 This framework allows for immediate progression to rehabilitation works, offering technical and urban-planning predictability to the future owner. Potential uses Given its scale, heritage significance and strategic location, this asset offers enormous potential as:
