Praia do Vau is an ocean beach in the municipality of Portimão in the Algarve, Portugal. It has a sandy beach flanked by gentle cliffs. It is a beach with tranquility, being known for its iodine and the clay of the cliffs, and also for the irregular rock formations.

Sheltered between copper-toned cliffs, Praia do Vau has a small but very beautiful sandy beach, where the calm sea completes the perfect setting to rest.
Very popular during the summer, the village next to the beach has a lot of entertainment and restaurants where you can taste delicious fresh fish dishes.

The ochre and red cliffs that mark the ends of the beach lower until they are interrupted in the central section of the sand. To the interior, there are several tourist facilities and the urbanizations of Vau with its garden areas.

Much of the vegetation around the beach is exotic (piteira, fig and cacti), having been introduced in a vain attempt to stabilize these cliffs, which are extremely vulnerable to contact with rainwater and the sea.

On the edge of the sand, in the direction of Barranco das Canas or Praia dos Careanos, the cliff rises and is covered by typical vegetation, especially barrilha and salgadeira, species resistant to the salt-laden sea winds.
