Mazan is a medieval village in the Vaucluse, set on the eastern edge of the Carpentras plain with the Ventoux massif rising to the north. The village retains its historic core intact, with a Romanesque church, a notable Gallo-Roman necropolis, and a château that once belonged to the Marquis de Sade. The surrounding landscape is defined by vineyards, cherry orchards, and garrigue, characteristic of the Comtat Venaissin, one of the most historically layered territories in Provence.
Daily life centres on the village market and the Place du Marché. Carpentras, with its covered market, specialist food shops, and Friday morning market, is eight kilometres away. Bedoin, the base village for Mont Ventoux cycling routes, is twelve kilometres east. The Dentelles de Montmirail wine villages, including Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise, are within a twenty-minute drive.
Carpentras train station connects to Avignon in under thirty minutes by road, and Avignon TGV station places Paris within two hours forty minutes by high-speed rail. Avignon Centre station serves regional TER connections. Marseille Provence Airport is approximately ninety kilometres south, around one hour by car. Avignon Caumont Airport handles private aviation and select charter routes, roughly forty kilometres from Mazan.
