Vale da Lama/Ria de Alvor - Rio Alvor, or Ria de Alvor, located between the parishes of Odiáxere (municipality of Lagos) and Alvor (municipality of Portimão), results from the confluence of four water lines coming from the southern slope of the Serra de Monchique that form this complex estuarine system that integrates dunes, beaches and agricultural land, semi-natural forest, pine forest and salted salted saltland, as well as housing species and habitats of community interest.

The estuary is protected from the ocean by fixed dunes that border the estuary area with vasa and sand banks, ancient salt pans, fish farms and marshes.
