Norway’s vast, wild mountains, fresh air and quiet surroundings offer room to breathe, far from crowded destinations. Long winters and mild summers make it a place to return to throughout the year. LHM builds homes here that make you want to stay and pass them on to the next generation, with the family traditions and memories created within them.

In Geilo, a mountain village and ski resort between Oslo and Bergen, this completed residence combines traditional Norwegian log construction with contemporary interior design. Stone façades and a living grass roof connect the house to its surroundings. Inside, custom furniture, natural oak, marble, leather and bronze details give the rooms a distinctly modern character.

Designed and built by LHM, the approximately 391 m² residence is offered fully furnished and decorated. The kitchen, dining area and main lounge form a generous shared space overlooking the mountains, with a handcrafted granite fireplace and direct access to a 97 m² stone terrace. A dedicated wine bar, sauna and outdoor jacuzzi complete the home.

Four bedrooms, including two with ensuite bathrooms, provide privacy for family and guests. An upstairs lounge offers a separate place to relax and four additional sleeping spaces, bringing the total accommodation to 12 guests. The residence includes four bathrooms and an additional WC, a two-car garage and a concealed ski preparation room.

This residence allows owners to begin enjoying that lifestyle immediately. Construction, furnishing and decoration are complete, with accommodation for family and guests and practical spaces for longer stays.

ARCHITECTURE SHAPED BY THE SITE

Set on a 1,633.5 m² plot, the house follows the natural slope of the terrain and is partially built into the mountainside. Solid log construction, selected stone façades and the grass roof reflect Norwegian building traditions, while large windows and generous ceiling heights bring light and views into the interior.

The natural stone terrace extends the living areas outdoors. Frameless glass balustrades keep the outlook open, with space for outdoor dining and the jacuzzi.

GEILO: A SKI RESORT AND A LIVING MOUNTAIN VILLAGE

Geilo sits at the top of Hallingdal, between Oslo and Bergen, surrounded by mountains and national parks. Alongside its ski facilities, the village offers restaurants, cafés, shops and services that make it practical for both short visits and extended stays.

Recognized as Norway’s Best Ski Resort by the World Ski Awards, Geilo offers skiing for different ages and abilities, from children’s areas and gentle slopes to steeper runs and terrain parks. Ski schools and equipment rental are available, and a ski bus connects the resort’s two sides.

Cross-country skiing is an important part of the local experience. The brochure identifies cross-country trails as the skiing amenity for this residence.

ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

Winter activities extend beyond alpine and cross-country skiing. Dog sledding, snowshoeing, tobogganing, fat biking, ice fishing and horseback riding offer different ways to spend time outdoors. The wider area also provides opportunities for snowkiting on Hardangervidda and ski touring around Hallingskarvet.

In summer and autumn, the mountains become a setting for hiking, cycling, fishing and quieter days exploring the landscape. Routes range from family outings to more demanding mountain trips, with opportunities for berry and mushroom picking along the way.

Geilo’s restaurants, cafés and shops complement the outdoor activities, giving owners reasons to visit beyond the winter season.

WHY OWN A HOME IN NORWAY?

For buyers seeking a second home, Norway offers space, majestic nature, mountain landscapes, long winter seasons, excellent quality snow, world class slopes, cool summers and a way of spending holidays built around outdoor life. Winter weekends can revolve around skiing; summer visits around walking, cycling and fishing.

Geilo combines this setting with an established village and transport connections. Its position between Oslo and Bergen makes it accessible from either city, with the Bergen Railway stopping in the village. The rail journey takes approximately three hours from Bergen and three and a half hours from Oslo, depending on the service.

BUYING AND INVESTING IN NORWAY

The home can serve as a private family retreat, with the option to explore rental use when it is not occupied by its owners. Geilo’s winter and summer activities provide a basis for considering use across more than one season.

Foreign buyers can purchase property in Norway without being residents. The process includes reviewing the property documents, submitting an offer, signing the purchase agreement and registering ownership with Kartverket, the Norwegian Mapping Authority.

The appointed estate agent can guide international buyers through documentation, registration and settlement, and provide a clear overview of purchase fees and ongoing ownership costs. This residence is completed and fully furnished, allowing the new owner to enjoy the home from handover.
