Quinta do Espírito Santo is located in Espariz, in the village of Tábua, belonging to the Coimbra region.
History of the Quinta • Quinta do Espírito Santo, located in Espariz, Tábua (Coimbra), dates back to the early 18th century and initially belonged to the Marques de Proença family. D. Ana Marques de Proença was the first known owner, sister of Sebastião Marques de Proença, Protonotary of India. • At the end of the 18th century, António Joaquim Correia de Proença e Oliveira Coelho stood out as the property administrator and obtained a coat of arms charter in 1783. • In the 19th century, the property was inherited by Manuel de Serpa Pimentel, 2nd Baron of S. João de Areias, who later donated it to his brother Eduardo de Serpa Pimentel. Through the marriage of his daughter, D. Sofia Adelaide de Serpa Pimentel, to Jorge Ferreira, grandson of D. Antónia Ferreira (”Ferreirinha”), the estate became linked to the famous Port wine-producing family. • In 1961, the State acquired the property, which was later sold to the Portuguese Firefighters League in 2004 and transferred to the current owners in 2006. • The manor house retains its original architecture, including a coat of arms on the main facade and a romantic garden with historical family elements.
Quinta do Espírito Santo covers an area of 19 hectares (190,000 square meters). The main building area is about 800 square meters. Entering through the main door leads to a spacious entrance hall. On both sides of the entrance are old granite staircases in an old European style. The ceiling features tapestries over a hundred years old, reflecting the cultural and historical heritage of the estate. The ceilings preserve the original wood sculptures and paintings.
The Main House is divided as follows: Ground floor: • Four multifunctional rooms • Two suites • Five bathrooms • A spacious kitchen • A formal dining room • A living room
First floor: • Library • Living room • Multifunctional room • Private Catholic chapel • Two luxurious suites (each with a private living room) • Five suites • Shared bathroom
The estate is equipped with: • Modern communication and heating systems • Fixed telephone lines and wireless internet • Heating systems using diesel and wood, ensuring comfort during winter
Quinta do Espírito Santo encompasses a large agricultural and forest area. The forest area, covering 10 hectares, includes various tree species such as cedars, oaks, chestnuts, pines, cork oaks, and eucalyptus. The agricultural area, covering 9 hectares, is separated from the forest by a stream and has two wells and a borehole equipped with electric pumps for irrigation.
The old fountain in the garden is well preserved, consisting of a historic stone well with the family coat of arms. The garden also features centuries-old trees and camellias with white and red flowers.
Agricultural production includes: • A large olive grove with drip irrigation for olive oil production • Fields of cereals (corn, oats, lupin) • Pastures • A vineyard of Touriga Nacional grapes for Dão wine production, including an old winery and press • A vast orchard with fruit trees such as plum, apple, pear, fig, cherry, and persimmon trees • Areas dedicated to growing vegetables like cabbage, turnips, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, beans, and broad beans
The estate also has warehouses for storing agricultural products, tools, and machinery, as well as a garage for two tractors and farming equipment.
In the livestock area, there are stables for sheep that graze freely in the pastures and coops for chickens and ducks, which feed on the products grown on the property.
Quinta do Espírito Santo, with its noble origin, strong European character, privileged location, abundance of resources, and great versatility, will undoubtedly become a unique project with enormous potential. Don’t miss this opportunity and come see it!
