Unique Historic Medieval Castle In The Province Of Brescia Northern Italy

Palazzo Estate offers a unique historic medieval castle in the municipality of Dello, province of Brescia, Lombardy. It is a rarity, immersed in a garden of approx. 1300m2 and a courtyard of approx. 700m2.

The castle has medieval origins and enjoys rich cultural and social history. Even before 1200-1300, the Dello castle represented the first defence within a system of fortifications for the surrounding town. The ”Rocca”, so-called by the inhabitants, defended the town. Over the centuries, there was also a moat, a drawbridge, a defensive gate, a courtyard, a vegetable garden, and uncultivated land.

Entering from the property door, we find a large paved courtyard with three distinct structures: the guardhouse on the right, the castle on the left and the stables at the end of the courtyard. The castle is over three floors for a total of approx. 1600 m2. The restaurant area is on the ground floor, with consequent sanitary adaptations.

Following up, there is a large entrance hall with a staircase leading to the upper floors made up of various rooms with a cellar and closet. On the first floor, above the restaurant area, a service group with storage, a living room and two bedrooms have been created. While above the flat, through the staircase, there is a second flat consisting of two rooms/living room, kitchen, and two bedrooms with a bathroom. On the attic floor, above the restaurant area, two bedrooms have been created. While above the residential area, there are three large rooms with variable heights where habitable rooms can be easily obtained.

The property also includes a guardhouse and a stable. The guardhouse, of about 90 square meters, formerly had the function of hosting the custodians of the main building, with a style that recalls the castle entirely. Spread over three floors: the boiler room is in the basement. On the mezzanine floor, a studio flat has been created consisting of a bedroom with a bathroom. On the first floor is a second studio flat comprising a bedroom with a bathroom.

The castle enjoys a fascinating history. During the Renaissance, the castle of Dello was mainly a meeting place for noble families from the area. The original conformation derives from significant renovation and consolidation works at the end of the 19th century, through the tastes of the time. The brick wall and three splayed windows of medieval origin were maintained. Except for small interventions concerning the internal distribution or the change of intended use in the restaurant area, the building has not undergone any changes since the last century.

Dello is less than 20 minutes by car from the city of Brescia, the capital of the province of Brescia. Lake Garda can be reached in less than 40 minutes and Milan centre in about 1.15 hours.
