19th century chateau on a 45 acre estate in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region of Charente, France.

Location:
The castle is located in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region, specifically in South Charente, on a rocky hill, away from prying eyes. It is well served by the following major roads:

Paris by car: 5 hours
Bordeaux: 1 hour (international airport)
Angoulême: 40 minutes (TGV train station)
First beaches of the Atlantic coast: 1 hour and 15 minutes

History:
The castle was built in 1865 in Renaissance style by a tax collector in Toulouse. The chapel is said to date from 1860. The castle has had several owners over the years and was sold to the state in 1936 to house a sanatorium. In 1960, a new building was added, turning the sanatorium into a center for recovery, followed by a medical center.

The extensive estate of more than 15,000 m² includes a 19th-century Renaissance-style castle and associated buildings, including cottages at the entrance of the estate, a former medical center, an industrial laundry, a caretaker’s house and more. Currently all buildings require restoration.

Architectural style: The castle is built of local stone and some traces of its construction date back to the early 19th century.

Authentic elements:
The castle has retained many authentic elements, such as chimneys, parquet floors, wainscoting, mouldings, rosettes, French-style ceilings and a beautiful staircase that connects all floors.

Exterior:
The exterior of the castle also contains elegant authentic elements.

Chapel:
All original elements of the chapel have also been preserved.

Sanatorium:
The castle has four levels and was transformed from a sanatorium into a medical center in the 1960s.

Caretaker’s house:
This building dates from the 1870s.

Estate:
The estate covers 45 hectares and offers significant development opportunities, including the creation of a Relais & Châteaux, a wellness center, a senior residence, a golf course, etc.
