The Paço, or Casa do Paço, stands as the most imposing manor house in the town of Azambuja and is listed among the twenty most important residences in the kingdom, according to records from the time of its construction by the Lords of Azambuja, the distinguished Rolim de Moura family. Originally, it bore a coat of arms crowned with the insignia of a count, which is now preserved in the Azambuja Museum. The estate remained under the ownership of its founding family until the early 18th century, when it changed hands twice before being acquired by the Vidal family, who have owned it for four generations.

The current structure is a 19th-century palatial residence, rebuilt in 1869 over the ruins of the original 14th-century building. Some remnants of this early construction are still preserved, including the oven, stone salt containers, and the flagstone flooring at the main entrance, where some numbered stones suggest the existence of ancient family tombs.

The Paço maintains a strong historical connection with France, not only because it was owned for several decades by a French family bearing the name Camelier, but also due to its role as the headquarters of Marshal Masséna, a French general serving under Napoleon Bonaparte, during the French invasions of the Peninsular War in 1810. This event marked the third and final campaign to occupy Portugal.

With its remarkable architectural and historical significance, the Paço holds immense potential to be transformed into a boutique hotel, a rural tourism retreat, or an exclusive events estate, offering a unique experience that seamlessly blends history with modern comfort.

----------------
