Marseille is France’s oldest city and its second largest, a Mediterranean port with a character entirely its own. The southern districts between Pointe Rouge and Montredon sit at the edge of the Calanques, where the city meets a protected coastal massif of limestone cliffs and clear water. This part of Marseille is residential and relatively quiet, far removed from the density of the centre, with a strong sense of place defined by the sea, the hills, and the light.

The Pointe Rouge marina has cafés and restaurants along the waterfront. The Plage du Bain des Dames and Plage de la Vieille Chapelle are within walking distance. The Calanques National Park trailheads are accessible from Montredon. The 8th arrondissement offers the Rond-Point du Prado and its commercial and dining options a short drive north.

Marseille-Provence Airport is approximately 30 kilometres from the southern districts, around 35 to 40 minutes by car. The city’s Saint-Charles station connects to Paris by TGV in approximately three hours and to Lyon in under two hours. The A50 motorway provides direct access toward Toulon and the eastern Côte d’Azur, with Aix-en-Provence reachable in under 30 minutes.
