We present a luxury villa in Sicily that belongs to a noble family. This enchanting and fascinating historic villa is located at the highest point of the ancient and historic promontory of Plemmyrion, amidst elegant villas once owned by other Sicilian noble families. The access to this grand luxury property and the villa is characterized by a tree-lined avenue of Pinus Pinea specimens, which only reveal a part of the villa, almost leaving the guest who walks down the avenue in suspense before the main facade finally unveils its beauty, like a gentlewoman who wishes to show her charms gradually to her beloved. At the beginning of the century, as evidenced by a period photograph, two magnificent lions adorned the sides of the staircase leading to the villa: these two marble sculptures were stolen during World War II; today, a magnificent pair of ancient, over a hundred years old Cicas stand in front of the entrance staircase. This ancient luxurious property features a dependence that is an old rural building which housed the stable for the horses and where the entire staff, including the family coachman, resided; within the grounds, there is another more recent building in neoclassical style, a pavilion intended for ceremonies and large events with a spacious hall; in front of it, a swimming pool with its sunbathing area. A testament to the family’s nobility, an ancient heraldic crest carved in stone peeks through the vegetation of the botanical garden on a stone belvedere tower, where it was customary for the family to relax while observing the sea of the great harbor. The villa has many rooms and features a beautiful glass-enclosed veranda topped with a wrought iron structure in liberty style. This luxury villa has been maintained in excellent condition for years and spans three levels, featuring a total of nine bedrooms, a large salon also used for the festive balls held inside: this salon adjoins another room, distinguished by a double-faced stone fireplace that was used to heat both rooms. Outside, a botanical garden from the 19th century has been revisited by the renowned Ettore Paternò del Toscano, who introduced a considerable number of rare plants that still exist today, including the cycas revoluta and monumental plants such as phoenix canariensis, washingtonia robusta, araucaria excelsa, ficus retusa, American agaves, and other ancient plants typical of the area like the carob tree. Walking along the paths feels like traveling back in time nearly two hundred years. The origin of the villa is much older, and according to certain studies, the villa itself was built on an area where there existed a fortified structure dating back to the time of the founding of Greek Syracuse; indeed, there are graphic depictions by ancient travelers who sketched what appears to be a castle with watchtowers right at the point where this villa now stands. This territory of Sicily is also described by the great poet Virgil in the third book of the Aeneid. We find ourselves in the land that gave birth to the great mathematician physicist Archimedes, just a few hundred meters from the coves of the Syracusan coast overlooking the island of Ortigia, washed by an enchanting blue sea where history recounts great naval battles between Corinthian Syracuse and the Athenians first, and against the Roman siege later. This luxurious villa deserves to return to its former splendor. The French writer Roger Peyrefitte, in his book - Returns to Sicily - describes this villa as sumptuous, probably in gratitude for the hospitality of the Marquis owners. If you are looking for luxury villas in Sicily with an old-world charm, this proposal is certainly noteworthy. The historic villa has a surface area of over 600 sqm on multiple levels. The old stable transformed into a dependence has a surface area of 285 sqm; the pavilion with reception hall has a surface area of 225 sqm.
