Saint-Raphaël sits at the western edge of the Côte d’Azur, where the red porphyry rock of the Massif de l’Estérel meets the Mediterranean. The town has a distinct character that sets it apart from the more commercialised resorts to the east: a working port alongside a pleasure marina, a Belle Époque seafront, and direct access to one of the most dramatic coastal landscapes in southern France. The Agay bay, a few kilometres to the west, is among the most sheltered and visually striking inlets on the Riviera.
Daily life centres on the covered market on Place Victor Hugo, the restaurants along the Vieux Port, and the beaches of Boulouris and Agay. The old town offers independent food shops, bakeries, and a strong local café culture. The Corniche d’Or coastal road connects the main residential areas to smaller coves within a short drive.
Saint-Raphaël has a mainline TGV station with direct services to Paris in approximately three hours and to Marseille in under an hour. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is around 60 kilometres east, reachable in roughly 50 minutes by car outside peak season. The A8 motorway provides straightforward access to Cannes, Nice, and the Italian border, making Saint-Raphaël a practical base for the wider Riviera.
