Aups is a small Provençal market town in the Haut-Var, sitting at roughly 500 metres elevation on the southern edge of the Verdon natural park. It has a well-preserved medieval centre with narrow stone streets, a collegiate church dating to the 16th century, and a reputation as one of the principal truffle markets in France. The surrounding landscape is a mix of oak woodland, lavender fields, and open garrigue, with the Gorges du Verdon within easy reach to the north.

The weekly market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings on the Place Martin Bidouré is a genuine working market, not a tourist fixture. The town has several restaurants, a handful of cafés, and a small but active cultural scene anchored by the Musée Simon Segal. Aups is approximately 35 kilometres from Draguignan and 25 kilometres from the Lac de Sainte-Croix.

Toulon-Hyères airport is approximately 90 kilometres south, around one hour by car. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, with its broader international network, is roughly 130 kilometres east, typically one hour and 30 minutes by road.
