Val DI Merse — Medieval Mill Of San Galgano With Manor House, Church, And Garden By The Stream

There is a point, in Pian di Feccia, where the Frelle flows into the river. There, for over a century, the only documented mill on the Feccia has ground: mentioned in dozens of deeds between 1232 and 1283, passed piece by piece to the monks of San Galgano, until it entered the grange of Valloria. In 1318, the abbey owned vineyards, six houses, and a mill with two grinding stones.
That mill is still here. And the water that powered it is still here too: in the historic kitchen, a glass in the floor opens a view of the well, beneath your feet.
The manor house develops over two levels.
On the first floor: historic kitchen, bright dining room with exposed beams, two bathrooms, a large room with an ancient fireplace, a bedroom with a study. On the second: three bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom, and a loft that serves as a reading corner.
The mill, renovated, now hosts a small independent apartment — bedroom, bathroom, kitchen. Convenient for guests, or for hospitality management.
In the garden, besides the mill, there is a deconsecrated church and a fountain. All bordered by the stream, immersed in the greenery of Val di Merse. San Galgano and the Eremo di Montesiepi — the sword in the rock — are just a few kilometers away. Siena is about thirty minutes away. The castle of Frosini, once owned by the counts of Gherardesca and a Templar mansion, dominates the valley just above.
