Established in 1864, Tahoe City has a rich heritage dating back to the Gold Rush, when fortune hunters passed through on their way to search for silver in the Comstock Lode. Tahoe City’s Lakefront Commons Beach is the heart of the town and provides acres of room to spread out, relax, hear a concert or peruse the Farmer’s Market in summer. At the north end, the park blends into Tahoe State Recreation Area, with right-on-the-lake campsites. The adjacent public pier makes a great place to jump into Lake Tahoe. In the winter, 65 kilometers of groomed cross-country track branch out from the center. Also in the winter, the town hosts Snowfest, North Lake Tahoe’s version of Mardi Gras, with parades, live music, and snow play.
