Einzigartig! Silbernes Schlössl!

The Silbererschlössl is located in Semmering, close to hotels, restaurants, shops, and sports facilities, and is easily accessible via the surrounding state and municipal roads as well as the S6 expressway. Semmering lies in southern Lower Austria between Vienna and Graz—both airports are about an hour’s drive away. Situated at around 985 meters above sea level, the community is recognized as a health resort with pure mountain air and wide views of Rax, Schneeberg, and Hirschenkogel.

Since the opening of the world’s first mountain railway in 1854, Semmering has established itself as a fashionable summer retreat with significant villa architecture—a tradition that is now experiencing a revival.

The Silbererschlössl rises on the forested Pinkenkogel in an elevated, largely secluded panoramic and quiet location, offering maximum privacy and breathtaking views of the alpine landscape. The property covers approximately 48,825 m², with a usable area of around 950 m²—about 750 m² of which is the main building.

A private driveway leads directly to the estate; parking spaces are available on the property.

The Schlössl was built in 1894 for Victor Silberer (1846–1924)—journalist, politician, entrepreneur, and promoter of sports and tourism, who early on recognized Semmering’s tourist potential. Unlike most summer residences in the region, which were built in the country house style, he deliberately had his estate constructed in medieval forms. The most striking feature is the eastern round tower with four neo-Gothic bay windows, whose silhouette resembles Neuschwanstein Castle. The main building is divided over four floors with two mezzanines and is accessible via an internal elevator; an observation tower offers panoramic views of the mountains. A former stable and carriage house is connected to the main house by a corridor; a separate electricity house completes the ensemble.

Inside, the Silbererschlössl impresses with its representative room layout:
- Nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms—some en suite, some separate—provide generous space for residents and guests.
- The ballroom, dining salon, and elegant lounge form the social center of the house.
- The library, study, and a small bar serve as retreats.

The highlight is the marble staircase made of Istrian marble with a wrought-iron railing; the vestibule and the Great Hall feature artistic stained glass by the Viennese painter Rudolf Geyling (circa 1893/94). The Great Hall also impresses with a bay window featuring a pointed arch window crowned by a keel-shaped hood and a quatrefoil. On the second floor, the lady of the house’s room was designed like a captain’s cabin with large porthole windows. The Schlössl was also the first villa in Semmering with electricity and central heating. The Neo-Renaissance wrought-iron gate on the main road dates from 1896.

From 2016, the Silbererschlössl underwent renovation:
- Facades and roofs were repaired.
- All turrets received gutters.
- A lightning protection system was installed.
- The twelve windows of the four small turrets were completely renewed, as were all doors, leaded glass, and wood and wall paneling.
- The basement floors were renewed.
- The heating system was replaced with a modern Hoval boiler (140 kW).
- A Wertheim passenger elevator (built in 1974) connects the main floors.

Ample parking is available on the extensive grounds. Some areas of the property still require further renovation.

With its distinctive architecture inspired by Neuschwanstein Castle, the Silbererschlössl remains a visible symbol of individuality, style awareness, and the entrepreneurial spirit of its builder to this day.
