Sainte-Maxime occupies the northern shore of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, directly across the water from Saint-Tropez itself. It has long attracted a quieter, more residential clientele than its famous neighbour, offering the same quality of light, pine-backed coastline, and clear Mediterranean water without the seasonal congestion. The town retains a genuine year-round community, with a working port, a covered market, and a seafront promenade that functions as the social spine of daily life.

The covered market on Rue Fernand Bessy runs daily in season and several mornings a week year-round. The port area has a concentration of reliable restaurants, including La Maison Bleue and Le Dauphin. The beaches of La Nartelle and La Croisette are among the most accessible on this stretch of coast, and the town centre is compact enough to manage on foot.

Sainte-Maxime is served by the A8 motorway via Le Muy, approximately 30 kilometres to the north, connecting to Nice and Aix-en-Provence. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is roughly 90 kilometres away, around one hour by car depending on traffic. A seasonal ferry service crosses the gulf to Saint-Tropez in approximately 15 minutes. The nearest TGV station is Les Arcs-Draguignan, about 35 kilometres away, with direct services to Paris in under five hours.
