Saint-Raphaël sits at the western edge of the Esterel Massif, where the deep red porphyry cliffs of the Corniche de l’Esterel meet the Mediterranean. The town has a distinct Belle Époque identity, shaped by its late nineteenth-century development as a resort for Parisian society, and that architectural legacy remains visible along the seafront and in the older residential quarters. It occupies a position between Cannes and Saint-Tropez that gives it genuine Riviera standing without the congestion of either.

The old port area anchors daily life, with the market at Place Victor Hugo running Tuesday through Sunday. Restaurants along the quays include Le Lamparo and La Voile d’Or for seafood. The Vieux Port offers direct boat connections to the Îles de Lérins. The Esterel coastal path provides direct access to coves and red-rock inlets within minutes of the town centre.

Saint-Raphaël station sits on the main TGV-connected line, with direct services to Marseille in under an hour and to Nice in approximately forty minutes. Cannes is fifteen minutes by train. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is roughly fifty kilometres east, reachable in under an hour by car via the A8 autoroute, and serves a wide range of European and intercontinental routes. Toulon-Hyères Airport lies approximately eighty kilometres to the west.
