Saint-Raphaël sits at the western edge of the Esterel massif on the Var coast, where the deep red porphyry rock of the Corniche de l’Esterel meets the Mediterranean. The town has been a destination since the Roman era and developed its Belle Époque identity in the late nineteenth century, when the railway brought Parisian society south. Today it balances a working port and year-round residential population with the seasonal draw of the Côte d’Azur, giving it a grounded character that distinguishes it from more purely resort-oriented neighbours.

The old port area anchors daily life, with the covered market on Place Victor Hugo open every morning. Restaurants along the waterfront include Le Lamparo and La Voile d’Or for seafood. The Agay inlet, a few kilometres east, offers sheltered swimming and a small commercial strip for everyday provisions. Fréjus, immediately adjacent, adds Roman amphitheatre, arena, and a broader retail offer.

Saint-Raphaël station sits on the main TGV-connected coastal line, with direct services to Marseille in around one hour and to Nice in approximately fifty minutes. Cannes is reachable in thirty minutes by train. The nearest international airport is Nice Côte d’Azur, roughly seventy kilometres east, accessible in under an hour by car via the A8 autoroute. Cannes-Mandelieu airport, serving private aviation, is approximately fifty kilometres west.
