Fréjus occupies a historically significant position on the Var coast, midway between Cannes and Saint-Tropez, where the Massif de l’Esterel meets the Mediterranean. Founded as Forum Julii by Julius Caesar, the city retains one of the most complete collections of Roman monuments in France, including an amphitheatre, aqueduct, and naval port remains. Its coastline, the Fréjus Plage district, offers direct Mediterranean frontage with a character that remains more residential and less commercialised than its better-known neighbours.

Daily life centres on the covered market on Place de la République, the old town’s café terraces, and the restaurants along the port at Saint-Raphaël, five minutes away. The beaches of Fréjus Plage are accessible without a car. Saint-Tropez is 35 kilometres west; Cannes is 40 kilometres east.

Saint-Raphaël station, served by TGV, connects to Marseille in under an hour and Paris in approximately four hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is 60 kilometres east, roughly 45 minutes by car, offering extensive European and intercontinental routes. The A8 autoroute provides direct access to both Aix-en-Provence and the Italian border, making Fréjus a practical base for the wider Côte d’Azur.
