Cabanas is a small village belonging to the parish of Quinta do Anjo and the municipality of Palmela. A peaceful village on the banks of the Arrábida River, located between Azeitão and Palmela in an area full of history and tradition.

In Cabanas we can find the Chapel of São Gonçalo, a 16th-century pilgrimage temple, with an octagonal plan and hypostyle porch, there are only two other similar ones in the country, one in Tomar and another in Janas (Sintra). The Chapel of São Gonçalo was built by the Marquises of Minas, former owners of Quinta da Torre, and has been classified as a Property of Municipal Interest by the DGEMN since 2002.
The now famous Festas de Nossa Senhora da Ascensão (Our Lady of the Ascension) is held every year in the picnic area of ​​Cabanas, next to the Chapel of São Gonçalo, in honour of São Gonçalo (the village’s patron saint). The festivities begin on Ascension Thursday (Dia da Espiga) and end on the following Sunday. On this day, a mass is celebrated in the chapel and a procession takes place that begins at the church of Cabanas and ends at the chapel of São Gonçalo.

Another equally famous fair is also held in Cabanas, the Cheese, Bread and Wine Fair, an initiative of the Regional Association of Dairy Sheep Breeders of Serra da Arrábida, with the support of the Palmela Town Council. It is a showcase of the best that the region has to offer.
