The Centro district of Málaga is the historic and cultural core of one of Spain’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. Its streets layer Roman, Moorish, and 19th-century bourgeois architecture in a compact, walkable grid that runs between the Alcazaba fortress and the Alameda Principal boulevard. The Cercanías suburban rail line links Centro to Málaga Airport in around twelve minutes, with the airport serving over 100 international destinations and handling more than 20 million passengers annually. The port, a short walk from the district, operates regular ferry services to Melilla and the Canary Islands.
