In the 15th century, a brotherhood of fishermen was created to defend the trade and working conditions. During the Revolution, the brotherhood was dissolved, and the privileges disappeared... Fishermen had a tradition of electing a king, which was not well-received during the revolutionary period! It was re-established in 1977 as the Association des Pescaïre Lilen. By reviving the fishermen’s brotherhood of L’Isle in 1977, the event La Pêche d’Antan is organized every third Sunday of July.
