A long drive lined with hundred-year-old lime trees leads to the house, built of stone and brick in the 17th and 18th centuries. The writer Octave Mirbeau lived here in the 19th century and wrote ”Le journal d’une femme de chambre” (The Diary of a Chambermaid), adapted for the screen by Luis Buñuel. Auguste Rodin was one of his guests at the time. Around it, the estate extends over more than 3 ha. Two 17th-century entrance pavilions, once given over to the stables, flank the main courtyard. An imposing wrought-iron gate closes the main courtyard, continuing as a low wall topped with railings. The grounds spread out before the north facade at the rear of the house and on either side of the lime avenue. The main house comprises a central pavilion of three levels, one of them in the attic, together with 18th-century side pavilions of two levels. Every room is dual-aspect. Slate covers the gabled and hipped roofs. Three dormers on the facade bring light to the converted attic level. A wrought-iron and glass entrance canopy shelters the main entrance above the perron. Ivory rendering covers the understated, symmetrical facade. A geometric alignment of red brick frames the many openings and picks out the cornice beneath the roof.
