The L-shaped barn has been painstakingly restored over several years, with the owners project-managing every stage themselves. “The first year was spent stripping everything back, followed by nine months restoring the oak frame,” they explain. “We wanted to celebrate the building’s incredible structure rather than divide it into lots of smaller rooms.” The impressive threshing barn retains its soaring proportions, exposed oak timbers and dramatic sense of volume, while a first-floor principal bedroom overlooks the magnificent roof structure. “We transformed the former dairy into a beautifully finished three-bedroom annexe with its own entrance, while still linking it to the main house,” they say. “It creates exceptionally flexible accommodation, which works brilliantly when family come to stay.” Modern comforts have been carefully integrated throughout. “We’ve reused as many original materials as possible, while incorporating underfloor heating, an air source heat pump and high levels of insulation,” they explain. “The full-height bi-fold doors have transformed the way we live, opening everything onto the terrace and making indoor-outdoor living effortless.” Outside, the gravel courtyard provides generous parking, while the gardens unfold into lawns, mature trees, a wildlife pond and areas of long grasses leading to views across the surrounding countryside. “At the top of the garden you can see the hills and Hereford Cathedral,” they say. “It’s our favourite place to watch both sunrise and sunset.” Life here revolves around space, nature and the changing seasons. “The kitchen has always been the heart of the house because everyone naturally gathers there,” they reflect. “But what we’ll miss most is stepping straight out of the front door for walks through the orchards and along the river. It’s such a peaceful place to live, with an incredible sense of openness that changes beautifully throughout the year.”
