Grimaud is a medieval hilltop commune in the Var department, sitting above the Gulf of Saint-Tropez between the Maures massif and the coast. The village itself, with its ruined castle, Romanesque church of Saint-Michel, and stone lanes, has retained a character largely unchanged by the tourism that defines the wider peninsula. Port-Grimaud, the private lakeside town designed by François Spoerry in the 1960s, sits at the foot of the commune and gives Grimaud a direct relationship with the water that few inland villages on this coast can claim.

Daily life divides between the village and the coast. The weekly market in Grimaud village covers local produce and regional goods. Port-Grimaud’s waterfront restaurants and the beaches of Saint-Pons and La Bouillabaisse are within a few minutes by car. Saint-Tropez is approximately 10 kilometres away, with its market on Place des Lices, restaurants including Vague d’Or, and the Annonciade museum.

The nearest commercial airport is Toulon-Hyères, roughly 60 kilometres west, with domestic and some European routes. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is approximately 90 kilometres east and serves as the primary international hub for the region, with direct connections to most major European cities and transatlantic routes. The A8 motorway is accessible via Le Muy, around 20 kilometres north, connecting to Aix-en-Provence and onward to Paris by road or TGV from Saint-Raphaël, approximately 25 kilometres away.
