Fuengirola is a well-established coastal town on the Costa del Sol, positioned between Marbella and Málaga along a broad, south-facing shoreline. It has a more grounded, year-round character than its neighbours, with a permanent international community, a working fishing port, and a seafront promenade that stretches for several kilometres. The town centre retains a recognisably Andalusian identity, with a weekly market, a Moorish castle, and a compact historic core around Plaza de la Constitución.

Daily life centres on the Paseo Marítimo and the streets around Calle de la Cruz. The Mercado Municipal on Calle Colón handles fresh produce. Restaurants worth noting include Casa Paco for traditional Andalusian cooking and El Barco for fresh seafood. The Bioparc Fuengirola and the Castillo Sohail are the main cultural anchors. Marbella is 30 kilometres west by road.

Fuengirola has its own Cercanías commuter rail station, connecting directly to Málaga city centre in approximately 45 minutes and to Málaga María Zambrano, the high-speed rail hub, in under an hour. Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is 18 kilometres east, roughly 20 minutes by car or a direct train from Fuengirola station in around 30 minutes. The airport serves over 100 international destinations, including direct routes to most major European cities.
