This is a house that leaves an impression the moment you walk through the door.
With its sculptural curved balconies, earthy Spanish/ Mediterranean inspired character, natural-stone colored walls and striking relationship with nature, this is a home with a personality all its own, set in a quiet cul-de-sac on sought-after Beach Road.
The architecture embraces its surroundings rather than competing with them. Rounded balconies, recessed windows and layered elevations create interesting plays of light and shadow, while the substantial stone retaining walls anchor the home into the natural landscape. And then there are the views, the ocean stretching out before you, the mountains beyond, and the changing colours of the coastline throughout the day.
Space to entertain, unwind and enjoy the view:
The main living level is reached via a wooden spiraling staircase, setting the tone for the character and scale of the home. To the left, a welcoming lounge with a fireplace opens onto a large terrace with a swimming pool. This is where the house really comes into its own when friends and family gather. There is room for long lunches, relaxed afternoons beside the pool and evenings spent entertaining a larger group, with the ocean providing a beautiful backdrop. On the opposite side, another lounge and a breakfast nook also enjoy ocean views. The practical kitchen is supported by a separate scullery to keep the working areas neatly tucked away.
A particularly memorable feature is the dedicated entertainment room, complete with an imposing pool table that remains with the property. Wood panelling and a built-in bookshelf give the room a classic, old-school character, the kind of place where a game can turn into an entire evening. Its own bathroom adds convenience.
An upstairs retreat with views at every turn:
The staircase continues upwards rounded off by an ornate brass light fitting, creating a striking sense of arrival. At the next level, a balcony invites you to pause for morning coffee or settle in to watch the sun go down over the bay. The main bedroom is a highlight. Generously proportioned and filled with natural light, its north-facing windows frame magnificent views. There is ample room for a king-size bed and a separate sitting area, making this more than simply a place to sleep, it is a private retreat within the home. A walk-in dressing room leads through to the en-suite bathroom, fitted with a double vanity, bath and shower.
Three further bedrooms on this level each enjoy a view, a dressing closet and their own en-suite bathroom. A fifth room, currently used as a reading room, offers flexibility as a study or a single bedroom.
The bathrooms have been modernised, bringing a fresh, contemporary finish to the home’s distinctive character.
A coastal address with room to live differently:
Situated on Beach Road in a quiet cul-de-sac, the property is close to the Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club and Bikini Beach. The setting offers convenient access to the coast and boating lifestyle without the feel of a busy through-road. Two garages and secure parking for four additional vehicles provide welcome practicality for a home of this scale, especially when entertaining.

Somerset West is found in the Helderberg Basin and is surrounded by magnificent mountains, fine beaches and stunning vineyards. Established in 1817 by four farmers, the village was named after the British Governor, Lord Charles Somerset in 1819. It has been extended quite a bit since its establishment but has managed to stay beautifully intact as it became the residential and commercial capital of the Helderberg Basin. Charming, old-fashioned buildings line the roads offering enchanting shops and boutiques for a pleasurable shopping experience including wine, chocolates, antiques and jewellery. There are quite a few historic buildings and monuments around town including the old NG church built in 1819, and the famous, beautifully restored homestead of the Vergelegen winefarm which was started in 1700. The wine route is a lush feature of the Helderberg region and falls part of the greater Stellenbosch wine route, including the oldest wine co-operative in the country. There is also a fruit route which is located about 15km away on the N2 and starts at Elgin. For those who prefer walks and trails, Somerset West offers many opportunities to take in some stunning mountain and ocean views including the Helderberg Nature Reserve which covers 245 hectares and has trails which would suit any type of walker and is famous for its views over False Bay and Cape Point. Somerset West offers ample opportunities to a range of sport lovers includes golf courses, a country club, bowls, soccer, tennis, squash, cricket, hockey and a pistol shooting range. Of course one of the most distinguished golf clubs in the region, Erinvale, is also situated in Somerset West. Then of course Somerset West is also home to the Country Craft Market which boasts an astounding 150 unique handcraft stalls where one is bound to find something of material and sentimental value. Somerset West has a Mediterranean climate. Therefore the summers are dry and hot but soothed with cool ocean breezes. Fortunately, the winter period won’t all be grey as many days are usually dotted with sunny days throughout. For an ideal climate, Spring and Autumn are advised as it contains mild days and warm evenings. With regards to education, Somerset West has excellent institutions which range from pre-school to tertiary level including the esteemed Somerset College and Parel Valley, the latter of which is taught bilingually.
