Cannes occupies a singular position on the French Riviera, combining international cultural prestige with the physical setting of the Mediterranean coast. The city is defined by the Boulevard de la Croisette, a two-kilometre seafront promenade lined with palace hotels, private beaches, and the Palais des Festivals, home to the world-famous film festival. Behind the Croisette, the old quarter of Le Suquet rises above the port, giving the city a layered identity that extends well beyond its glamorous waterfront.

Daily life in Cannes centres on the Marché Forville, one of the best covered markets on the Riviera, open every morning except Monday. The Rue Meynadier offers independent food shops and casual dining. Restaurants of note include La Palme d’Or at the Martinez and Mantel in the old town. The Lerins Islands are a short ferry ride from the Vieux Port.

Cannes is served by its own train station on the main Marseille to Ventimiglia line, with direct TGV services connecting to Paris in roughly five and a half hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is approximately 25 kilometres east, reachable in around 30 minutes by car or via the direct Lignes d’Azur bus service. Monaco is approximately 45 minutes by train, and Marseille is under two hours.
