Early 20th-century architecture, this traditional Bordeaux shop and its annex offer 160 m² of living space on a 234 m² plot, arranged around a swimming pool in a quiet street near the shops of Barrière de Pessac.

Renovated and expanded in 2015, the house is the result of a collaboration between architect Denis Latour and the owners, who are contemporary art enthusiasts. The project’s approach was to open up the layout as much as possible to let air and light flow through the volumes and open onto the garden.

Behind a beautiful blonde stone facade, the entrance is organized around a custom piece of furniture serving as a wardrobe on one side and a desk on the other, before revealing the impressive volume of the living area. This space, with its double height under the sloping roof and a set of skylights, benefits from generous zenithal light that captures the sun from east to west.

The entirely open space is free of partitions and creates a fluid succession of functions along its length—from the office to the living room and then the dining room—which, together with the kitchen, open onto the outdoors through a fully glazed L-shaped facade.

The white kitchen, featuring a quartz countertop and frosted glass backsplash, discreetly lines one wall, allowing the view to extend toward the garden. The corner glass doors open fully, erasing the boundaries between inside and outside. When fully folded back, they transform the kitchen bar into a convivial table for al fresco dining in fine weather.

From the living area, a steel mezzanine lightly divides the volume, almost imperceptible thanks to its black wrought iron railing. A staircase with metal steps anchored into the wall leads upstairs, where a versatile space overlooks the living room and serves a guest bedroom with an open bathroom. The ground-floor bedrooms, equipped with custom oak storage, are accessible from the living room. One bedroom, with its private bathroom, has independent access via a welcoming garden to the west, while on the garden side, the master suite naturally extends onto the wooden terrace around the pool, where the vegetation contrasts with the black stained cladding.

At the back of the plot, an annex of about 11 m² houses an additional bedroom to welcome guests like in a hotel. The bed is elevated on a platform above a freestanding bathtub facing the garden and pool.

A laundry room, a cellar, and a technical room complete the property, along with the option to acquire a detached garage, enhancing the practicality of this exceptional home.
