The estate was built by Pedro de Mello e Castro, a nobleman of the House of Braganza who fought at the Battle of Alcácer Quibir in 1578, the manor is deeply rooted in Portuguese history. It is named after General Dinis de Mello e Castro (1624-1709), born on the estate and later awarded the title of 1st Count of Galveias, for his service during the Portuguese Restoration Wars.
Owned by the same family for over four centuries, the manor was enhanced and expanded in the early twentieth century by the renowned architect Raul Lino, in one of his earliest commissions. The estate remains a remarkable example of Alentejo’s grand historic residences, preserving its original character, architectural integrity and timeless grandeur.
