The Long Range Dual Motor is the sweet spot of the Model 3 range - four-wheel drive, serious pace and a genuine 360 miles WLTP, without the firmer ride of the Performance car.

Being a 2021 example, this is the updated model, which brought a series of worthwhile improvements: a heat pump that dramatically reduces the winter range loss of earlier cars, double-glazed acoustic front glass for a quieter cabin, a powered boot lid, a redesigned centre console with proper covered storage, and a retuned suspension that rides better.

Performance is properly quick. A motor on each axle gives instant all-wheel-drive traction, 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds and a 145mph top speed, all in near silence with no gearbox and no lag. In poor weather the dual-motor system shuffles torque between the axles faster than any mechanical system can.

Charging remains Tesla’s biggest practical advantage. On a Supercharger it goes from 10 to 80 percent in around half an hour, and the built-in route planner calculates stops for you, preconditions the battery on approach and tells you exactly how long you will be plugged in. At home, the 11kW onboard charger fills it overnight.

Inside, the 15-inch central touchscreen runs everything, and over-the-air updates mean the car has gained features since it left the factory. It also has the full-length panoramic glass roof, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, twelve-way power front seats with memory, premium audio, wireless phone charging, phone-as-key entry, dual-zone climate control, Autopilot with traffic-aware cruise and autosteer, 360-degree camera views and Sentry Mode.

Practicality is better than a saloon suggests, with 561 litres of total luggage space including the front boot.

Tesla’s battery and drive unit warranty runs for 8 years or 120,000 miles, guaranteeing at least 70 percent capacity, and it transfers to you - cover into 2029.
