This 1963 Pontiac Tempest is an extraordinary one-off custom build created with virtually no compromises. Custom built by Riley Customs, the car was extensively reengineered, fabricated, and refinished from the ground up. Finished in striking Golden Bronze Metallic over a bespoke tan Gator and leather interior, virtually every aspect reflects an enormous investment in craftsmanship. The build represents a substantial six-figure investment, with extensive receipts, dyno sheets, engine specifications, and supporting documentation included.
At the heart of the Tempest is a Butler-built 459ci Pontiac V8 producing a dyno-proven 795 horsepower. The engine is topped by a polished 8-71 blower and dual C&S 850 carburetors, with the induction system extending through the custom-fabricated hood. An Aeroquip-equipped fuel system supports the combination, while a custom Be Cool modular cooling system incorporates a separate transmission cooler and dedicated fan. The engine compartment features polished components, braided lines, fabricated panels, and show-quality detailing. Power is sent through a Rosler-built Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a Coan torque converter and back to a Moser Ford 9-inch rear end. The chassis features a four-link rear suspension, coilovers, power rack-and-pinion steering, and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. The entire undercarriage is ceramic coated rather than chromed, providing a high-end finish that is more expensive and better suited to the application. The only chrome on the car is found on the bumpers and hood latch. Despite its extreme appearance and nearly 800 horsepower, this Tempest was built as a street-driven car and has never been professionally raced.
The body has been extensively modified while retaining the unmistakable profile of the 1963 Tempest. The wheelbase was altered approximately three inches forward, creating its dramatic Pro Street proportions. The drip rails were shaved and smoothed, exterior moldings were removed, and the fuel filler is mounted on top of the fuel tank inside the trunk. Custom inner fenders were fabricated, the front fenders received enhanced louvers, and the hood was formed around the massive 8-71 blower. Flush-mounted, radiused Lexan front and rear windows with a coated finish complement the competition-inspired appearance, while the stock side glass remains in place with tint. At the rear, extensive hand fabrication includes a custom fuel tank, rear valance, fabricated rear spoiler with support rods, customized rear panel and taillight treatment, and side-exit exhaust outlets ahead of the rear wheels. The fuel pressure gauge attached to the fuel pump is frenched into the rear valance. Weld Racing wheels are fitted with massive 33x22x15 Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R rear tires and 26x6 fronts.
The interior is equally elaborate, with custom bucket seats finished in tan leather and contrasting Gator-patterned inserts throughout the center console, door panels, and other interior surfaces. A custom dashboard houses a full complement of AutoMeter instrumentation, with additional gauges in the lower dash. A custom steering wheel, performance floor shifter, race belts, and color-coordinated integrated roll cage reinforce the car’s performance character. Street usability includes working Vintage Air heat and air conditioning, power windows, electrically operated doors with custom manual-style handles, and a seven-speaker AM/FM/CD sound system. A finished headliner and integrated overhead console continue the custom treatment, while the trunk features finished panels, matching upholstery, color-coordinated chassis structure, a fabricated aluminum fuel tank, and relocated electrical components.
This Tempest is the type of build where the details become more impressive the closer you look. From the hand-fabricated bodywork and bespoke Gator and leather interior to the ceramic-coated undercarriage, purpose-built suspension, show-quality engine compartment, and dyno-proven 795-horsepower Butler Pontiac drivetrain, this car represents an enormous investment in time and craftsmanship. It is accompanied by two keys, build receipts, dyno sheets, engine specifications, and supporting documentation. Custom built by Riley Customs, this fully documented, one-off Pro Street Tempest combines exceptional craftsmanship and show-car presentation with serious Pontiac performance and genuine street capability. Its Golden Bronze Metallic finish, 8-71-blown 459ci Pontiac V8, ceramic-coated undercarriage, custom interior, and extensive fabrication make it a truly distinctive build.
Price does not include applicable tax, title, license, processing, and/or $240 documentation fees.
