There’s something special about a Model T built for speed rather than simple transportation, and this stripped down speedster delivers exactly that, capable of reaching 55 miles per hour thanks to a thoroughly rebuilt engine and just 60 miles logged since that rebuild was completed. This is a genuine race inspired Model T, built with the kind of mechanical attention to detail that enthusiasts dream about finding.
Finished in a deep maroon, this speedster has a lean, purposeful stance that perfectly captures the stripped down race car aesthetic popular with Model T builders of the era. A classic brass radiator up front adds authentic vintage character, while modern Wilwood rear disc brakes bring genuinely improved stopping power to match the car’s speed capability, a thoughtful blend of old and new that keeps this speedster both authentic and safe to drive.
The 177ci inline four has been completely gone through from top to bottom, starting with a hot tank clean and a .040 bore with matching .040 stock compression pistons fitted with Hastings premium piston rings. The crank was turned .020 on the rods and mains and rebabbitted, while the valves were sized to .030 or 11/32 with hardened seats added for durability. Chevrolet exhaust valves were installed along with new springs and modern retainers, paired with single lock standard lifters, new cam bearings, and a new crank with a used steel cam gear. The block was resurfaced on the exhaust port side, magnifluxed and pressure tested, with any water jacket cracks properly repaired, and every component was weight balanced before final assembly for smooth, reliable operation. An updraft carburetor feeds the freshly built engine, which pulls air through to power delivery via a genuinely robust 2 speed manual transmission, also fully rebuilt with new triple gears and pins, new bushings honed to fit, a new Jack Rabbit clutch and clutch spring, a new ring gear, and new low, reverse, and brake drums. Power reaches the road through a rear axle fitted with a 3.0:1 ring and pinion, rounded out by new hickory wheels built by Stutzman Wheel Service.
Inside, maroon leather seating matches the exterior color for a clean, cohesive look that fits the car’s no nonsense speedster personality, keeping the focus squarely on the driving experience rather than creature comforts.
This Model T Speedster is a remarkable example of period correct race car building, backed by an exhaustively documented, ground up engine and transmission rebuild that makes it ready to be driven hard and enjoyed exactly as its builders intended.
