The importance of the original jeep in WWII might not ever really be understood and by Wars end almost 650,000 had already been built. Entering Europe and joing the occupation to destroy German was inevetable by 1940 and the US Army sent specs of a small 1/4 ton 4x4 light military truck that was rugged and durable to 135 US manufacturers and onlyu 2 bids came back. One from Willys Overland and the other from Bantam. Both were dismissed for various reasons but in 1941 Both Ford and Willys would design there own and present to the Government. Ford ultimately won, besides Willys would have never been able to produce in the numbers Ford could. As the war drew to a close and these started to become available to the average joe, well it would not take long for them to become popular among farmers and ranchers, ultimatley these Jeeps would become a huge success. This particular unit represents and honors T-5 Roman Polanski and has been battered and bruised in its many years on this planet, but one thing is for sure, it runs, drives and stops really nicely. starts easily, idles nicely and the underside is super nice with a newer bushing and parts throughout. The suspension is great, brakes are good and the light work. We look forward to hearing from you in regards to questions or inpsections here in our Traverse City location.
