GR Auto Gallery is proud to present a genuine piece of American drag racing history, the 1965 Ford Falcon known as ”Chevamoco.” Far more than a custom-built vintage drag car, this altered-wheelbase Falcon traces its roots back to Bobby Lagana Sr. and the Lagana family’s long involvement in American drag racing.

Chevamoco was originally built by Bobby Lagana Sr. in 1965 and went on to compete as a match-race car during the late 1960s. The unusual name reflects one of the car’s defining characteristics: Ford Falcon bodywork combined with Chevrolet big-block power. Today, the car has been restored in tribute to its period racing configuration, preserving the outrageous appearance and personality that made early altered-wheelbase drag cars so memorable.

Finished in blue with hand-painted lettering and graphics throughout, Chevamoco looks every bit the vintage race car. Under the hood sits a built 496 cubic-inch big-block Chevrolet backed by a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and Ford 9-inch rear end. The stripped interior is all business, featuring a single racing seat with harness and Moroso RPM gauge. Massive rear drag slicks, quad side-exit exhaust and a rear-mounted parachute complete its unmistakable competition appearance.

The story behind the car is every bit as impressive as its mechanical setup. Bobby Lagana Sr. was part of a family whose name became deeply connected with drag racing, with later generations of the Lagana family continuing into Top Fuel competition. Chevamoco survives as an artifact from those earlier days of the family’s racing history and has become closely associated with Bobby Lagana Sr.’s legacy.

Rather than another modern interpretation of a 1960s drag car, Chevamoco offers documented period history, unmistakable character and a direct connection to the Lagana racing story. With its altered-wheelbase stance, big-block Chevrolet power, 4-speed manual and hand-painted racing graphics, this 1965 Ford Falcon represents a fascinating surviving piece of the match-racing era.
