2002 Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 423 | Proven Long-Range Cruising Yacht
Huaka’i is an exceptionally well-equipped example of the Beneteau Oceanis 423: a refined 43-foot sailing yacht combining responsive performance, generous interior volume, and genuine long-distance cruising capability.
Designed by Groupe Finot, the Oceanis 423 is admired for its balanced sailing characteristics, broad aft sections, spacious cockpit, and light-filled accommodations. Huaka’i is the desirable two-cabin, two-head version, offering an unusually comfortable arrangement for an owner cruising privately, entertaining guests, or spending extended periods aboard.
The centerpiece of the interior is a gracious main saloon finished in warm Douka wood with cherry-toned varnish. Panoramic overhead glazing, opening ports, and approximately 6’9” of headroom create an open, sophisticated environment with abundant natural light and ventilation. A large U-shaped dining area is complemented by a separate portside settee, extensive cabinetry, bookshelves, and practical storage throughout.
Forward, the owner’s suite provides a centerline island berth with an upgraded custom mattress, private seating, generous drawers and lockers, and an ensuite bathroom with a separate shower compartment. The aft guest cabin includes a comfortable transverse double berth, dressing seat, and hanging storage, with a second head and shower conveniently positioned nearby.
The intelligently arranged galley is designed to function securely both at anchor and underway. Equipment includes Frigoboat front- and top-loading refrigeration, a three-burner gimballed propane stove with oven, induction cooktop, microwave, double stainless-steel sink, filtered drinking water, saltwater pump, and hot water supplied through shore power, the engine, or the yacht’s diesel heating system.
On deck, the wide cockpit provides teak-trimmed seating for up to six around a substantial folding dining table. A leather-wrapped 42-inch wheel, comprehensive instrumentation, tall protective coamings, and direct access through the walk-through transom make the cockpit equally suited to passagemaking, alfresco dining, and relaxed days at anchor. A high bimini, dodger, extensive tropical sunshades, tailored hatch covers, screens, and cockpit cushions provide excellent protection in warm climates.
Huaka’i has been thoughtfully configured for short-handed sailing. All primary control lines are led aft, while the sail plan includes a fully battened mainsail with three reef points and stack pack, furling 130% genoa, lightly used Spectra staysail, storm sail, and a North Sails gennaker mounted on a Profurl top-down furler. One of the four Lewmar self-tailing winches is electric, and a Tides Marine mast track, Dutchman boom brake, carbon-fiber whisker pole, and Monitor windvane further support efficient offshore handling. The standing rigging was completely replaced in 2015 and has been inspected regularly.
Navigation and communications equipment include Simrad chartplotter and radar, Raymarine autopilot with wireless remote, Raymarine wind, depth and speed instruments, Digital Yacht AIS transceiver, Standard Horizon VHF with remote microphone, Icom M802 SSB with Pactor modem, and Starlink internet.
Her upgraded electrical system is designed for substantial independence from shore facilities. The installation includes a 400Ah LiFePO4 house battery, 2024 AGM starting battery, 600 watts of solar generation, a Balmar 150-amp alternator with external regulator, and a new 3,000-watt pure-sine-wave inverter. The owners report that an ordinary day at anchor consumes approximately 30% of available battery capacity.
Auxiliary power is provided by a 55hp Volvo Penta diesel with approximately 3,500 hours, driving a three-blade bronze feathering propeller with rope cutter. In 2025, the engine received a comprehensive cooling-system renewal, including a new heat exchanger, exhaust elbow, pumps, hoses, exhaust hose and engine mounts, together with improvements to the alternator bracket and engine-room ventilation. Cruising speed is approximately seven knots.
Long-range equipment includes a Spectra Ventura watermaker, Webasto three-zone hydronic heating, air conditioning, Lofrans Tigres 1,200-watt windlass, Rocna primary anchor with 175 feet of chain and 250 feet of rode, two Fortress anchors, 152 gallons of freshwater capacity, dual holding tanks, a flopper stopper, extensive spares, and robust safety equipment.
A 10-foot Walker Bay Genesis tender with 9.8hp Tohatsu four-stroke outboard is carried on stainless-steel arch davits. Additional lifestyle equipment includes a hookah diving system, inflatable paddleboard, fishing equipment, barbecue, dock filtration system, cruising guides, tools, household inventory, and a comprehensive collection of spare components.
A proven passage yacht, Huaka’i has cruised from the Pacific Northwest to Mexico and onward through the South Pacific. She is presented as a highly developed, self-sufficient cruising platform for an owner who values comfort, autonomy, and the ability to depart without first undertaking a major outfitting program.
